Malacca High Sportsman Of the Year



Truly one of the most brilliant swimmers to pass through the gates of the Malacca High School, LKS commenced his swimming career very early. Ever since he started swimming at the age of nine, he has won countless medals and broken numerous records.

He first represented the school and the State in swimming and water-polo when he came into Form One in 1977. At school level, he has never been beaten by any swimmer and he captured the M.S.S. Melaka 100m, 200m, 400m and 1500m. Freestyle events, the 100m and 200m Butterly events, the 100m Backstroke event and the 400m Individual Medley throughout the years 1977, 1978, 1979 and 1980. Representing the State at the M.S.S. Malaysia Swimming Meet for the past five years, he has been able to bag the gold medal thrice in the 100m Freestyle event and twice in the Butterly event.

He has taken part in the National Age-group Championship Meet and holds three gold medals for winning the 100m Freestyle event in 1977, 1979 and 1980. He also won the 100m Butterfly even and has been first for the past two successive years. He went on to represent the country at the 1st, 3rd and 4th ASEAN Age-group Swimming Meets.

As captain of the school water-polo team, he has led it to greater glory of emerging as State Champion Team for the years 1980 and 1981. He was also a member of the State team which emerged as champions in the M.S.S. Malaysia Water-polo Championship. He also participated in the National Age Group Championship in 1979 and 1981 and the National Open in 1980. He was selected for the SEA Games in 1979 and 1981 but stayed back because of his SRP and SPM examinations.

He has truly come along way in water sports. For his splendid performances in water sports, he was named as Sportsman of the Year 1981.
