Good service awards


Students, teachers and the non-academic staff and individuals who helped Malacca High School (MHS) were recently awarded with citations for their achievements and contributions to the school.

Called the MHS Principal's Honours Awards, the citations covered eight categories of recipients: students who scored the maximum number of As in the major examinations; retiring teachers or those transferred out following meritorious services as well as teachers and individuals involved in co-curricular excellence.

At the inaugural awards presentation, 15 citations were handed out. As headmaster Haji Mohamed Haji Ismail explaned: " Enhancing the good name of the school does not only rest on the students but also on teachers and non-academic staff. Sometimes, efforts are rendered after school hours and go unnoticed."

At the recent citations presentation ceremony, the fine efforts of the following teachers were recognised:

Leong Huay Kow, MP Renganathan, Edward Khoo Ah Seng, Mohamed Rejab Abdullah and Peter Suan for outstanding and distinguished services.

Haji Lasa Yahaya, Au Hong San, Lim Phang Nghee, Chandra Das Menon, Wong Seng Por, Mohamed Ali Ibrahim, Sulaiman Kasim, Haji Mohamed Husin, and all members of various Subject Panels which helped students attain the best subject results in the 1992 SRP, SPM and STPM exams.

Hockey coaches Lim Phang Nghee and G. Ravindran for assisting MHS capture the state under -15 and under-18 titles as well as the National Champion Schools in 1989 and 1990.

Loo Keong Poh and Sam Pui Cheng for the staging of the two musicals, Flower Drum Song and My Fair Lady.

Mrs. Gan Boon Cheng and Mrs. Leong Swee Sang for their involvement in the National Science Project and for assisting MHS capture the National Science Quiz honours in 1991 and 1992.

Sepak takraw coaches Mohamed Ali Yusof and Abdul Rashid Sidek, for assisting MHS emerge inter-school champions in 1992.

The school's recognition of outstanding contributions in the various fields will spur one and all to strive even harder. - By Percy D'Cruz.
