TAN SRI DR. ABDUL RAHMAN ARSHAD

Tan Sri Dr. Abdul Rahman Haji Arshad is another 'old boy' who has done the Malacca High School proud. As the former Director-General of Education, he has played prominent role in a field that many claim to be the essense of mankind.

A student in the school from 1948 to 1956, he held a number of important posts. Apart from being a school prefect, he was the President of the Malay Language Society, President of the Geographical Society and a Hostel Captain.

His school days being completed, he furthered his education at the University of Malaya in Singapore in 1956, the University of Reading in the United Kingdom in 1965 and the New Zealand Staff College in 1974.

Tan Sri Dr. Abdul Rahman Haji Arshad served as the ADO of Kuala Pilah in 1960, but his prime interest has been education. He served as the Education Officer of the Malay College in 1962, the Deputy Director of Education of Penang in 1965, of Kedah in 1966 and of Kelantan in 1968, the Director of Examination in 1970 and the Director of Educational Planning and Research in 1974.

His noble contributions towards the nation, resulted in him being awarded the B.S.K. in 1969 by the Sultan of Kelantan, the J.S.M. in 1973 by the Yang Di Pertuan Agong and the D.K.S.J. carrying the title of Datuk in 1976 by the Governor of Malacca.

The field of education may mean different things to many different persons, but to Tan Sri Dr. Abdul Rahman Haji Arshad, it was an ideal arena in which he could contribute his bit to the nation, and has at the same time brought up the name of his alma mater.
