Proud Day for 68 Queen Guides
Lady Baden-Powell's vision of developing girls with character and skills for a fruitful adult life lived on in 68 Girl Guides and Rangers as they walked proudly up the stage to be conferred Queen Guides by Raja Permaisuri Agung Tuanku Bainun in Petaling Jaya yesterday.
On the sash across the uniforms of these Queen Guides are a string of badges representing their achievement in mastering computers, carpentry, music, first aid, camping and many other tasks.
To Penang Rangers Catherine Lian and Lim JN, both 17, those badges are an accumulation of years of hard work that trained them to be more independent in life.
"When you are striving for a badge, you have to do it alone. This teaches you to handle and settle problems on your own," Catherine said.
For Malacca High sixth-former, Fatin, 18 the movement's principles such as respecting your elders and helping others at all times could lead to a more caring society.
